about annabelle

Annabelle Bradley lives in the village of Malham in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park District, where she designs and produces handcrafted and bespoke jewellery from her workshop in the Malham Smithy.

Annabelle takes influence from the rich contrast and diversity between the lustrous, vibrant colours of the rolling hills, segregated by the flowing yet regimented grey structures of the dry stone walls and limestone pavements, synonymous with the traditional scenery in the Yorkshire Dales around Malham. The man-made structural separation of the dry stone walls are reflected and contrasted in the becks, streams and springs that surround Malham and fluidly divide the hills in a gentle but untameable natural way.

It is these contrasts that influence the designs and materials used in Annabelle's handcrafted jewellery. The gentle undulations of the Yorkshire Dales hills, wild moorland heather and natural flower meadows are represented in the lustrous hues and shapes of the beaded glass. The structural qualities of the dry stone walls are given equal strength by the use of steel in the jewellery and the fluid movement of the becks and streams are reflected in the manipulated silver. It is amidst this idyllic landscape that Annabelle lives and works. With Malham Cove, Malham Tarn and Gordale Scar on the doorstep, inspiration is never far away. From her daily commute in Malham of just 50 yards across the centuries old clapper foot bridge over the Malham Beck, taking in the view of the valley beyond Malham, Annabelle begins her designs in the historic Malham Smithy.
